Take a trip down memory lane as we walk through our journey in the world of hospital gift shop management.
Where It All Began:
The Power of Thank You
Our journey began in 1981, when Mike and Lori Cohen opened Lori’s Hallmark, a small gift shop in a shopping center in Plano, Texas.
Every evening, Mike spent countless hours writing handwritten thank-you notes to any customer who spent $20 or more.
In 1982, one loyal customer forever changed his future when she recommended the Cohens for a 200-square-foot gift shop opening in a Texas hospital that's now known as Medical City Plano.
Nine months after the “shoebox” shop opened, the Cohens sold their original Hallmark store to focus exclusively on hospital gift shops. They operated under the name Lori’s Hospital Gift Shops and later, Lori’s Gifts.
The Cohens focused on expanding the Lori's Gifts business until it became a national brand. By the late 90s, Lori's Gifts had grown to 152 locations across 23 states.
The Journey Continues:
Wholesale Distribution to Gift Shops
In 1999, Mike founded Kelli’s Gift Shop Suppliers, a wholesale distribution company designed to bring the Cohens' buying expertise to independently-operated hospital gift shops. In 2001, he sold Lori's Gifts to his financial partners to focus exclusively on Kelli’s.
Mike, Lori, and their son Justin grew the Kelli's business using their deep knowledge of gift shops and their unique needs. Kelli's offers a one-stop source for the large variety of merchandise a gift shop needs to succeed. Small pack sizes allow shops to reduce their risk, maximize their budget, and make the most of small storage spaces.
Today, Kelli’s is a leading wholesale distributor specializing in the sale of general merchandise to hospital gift shops. Kelli's distributes 5,000 items to over 10,000 retail partners across the nation. Inventory is managed and fulfilled from Kelli's 100,000‑square‑foot warehouse in Carrollton, Texas.

The Origin & Growth of Cloverkey
By the late 2010s, the Cohens recognized a need to bring their service and dedication back to the hospital gift shop management world. In 2020, they founded Cloverkey, a hospital gift shop management business. In just a few short years, Cloverkey has expanded to 27 locations across 10 states.

Mike and Lori Cohen open a Hallmark gift shop in a shopping center in Plano, Texas.

2019
Kelli’s has become a well-established national distributor, with a presence in thousands of hospital gift shops and retail stores across the United States. Kelli's high-tech, state-of-the-art inventory management system supports a 99% fulfillment rate with next-day shipping on all orders.

Seeing a need to bring their service and dedication back to the hospital gift shop management world, the Cohens decide to return to the hospital gift shop management business and found Cloverkey.

2021
Cloverkey begins its first year of business with a bang, opening eleven locations in 2021. On May 17th, Cloverkey proudly unveils its first location at world-renowned Boston Children's Hospital in Massachusetts. Shortly after, other stores are opened in Pennsylvania, Texas, New Jersey, and Florida. A website offering same-day delivery of gift items to hospital patients — shop.cloverkey.com — is launched in the fall.

Spring 2022
Cloverkey continues to grow, opening four additional locations within the first quarter of 2022. Shop.cloverkey.com is expanded: same-day delivery is launched for more Cloverkey locations and hundreds of new items are added to the website, bringing the total product selection to over 2,000 items.

Spring 2023
Cloverkey partners with Women & Infants Hospital to open a gift shop in their Providence, Rhode Island facility. The gift shop offers a wide selection of gifts for newborns, new parents, and big siblings.

Summer 2023
Cloverkey expands its partnership with Moffitt Cancer Center, opening a second location at the brand new Moffitt McKinley Hospital in Tampa, Florida.

Fall 2023
After releasing an RFP and carefully weighing their options, Strong Memorial Hospital at the University of Rochester chooses Cloverkey as the provider for their Friends of Strong gift shop.

Mike Cohen
Together with his wife Lori, Mike founded Lori's Gifts in 1982, Kelli's Gifts in 1999, and Cloverkey in 2020 alongside his son, Justin. He now serves as CEO of Kelli's and Cloverkey.
Lori Cohen
With 40+ years of experience purchasing merchandise for gift shops, Lori brings her specialized expertise and long-standing vendor relationships to the Cloverkey team.
Justin Cohen
Justin grew up in the hospital gift shop world and officially joined Mike and Lori to help run Kelli's in 2006. He now serves as President of Kelli's and Cloverkey.

Gwynne Gillette
Chief Marketing Officer
Gwynne was part of the original Lori's Gifts team, having been hired by Mike back in 1999. As VP of Development, she and her team grew Lori's Gifts to more than 400 gift shops across 40 states. Gwynne joined Mike and Justin in 2020 to found Cloverkey and opened an impressive 21 locations by the end of 2022.
Kim Schuler
Kim served as CEO of Lori's Gifts for 22 years, where she worked with Gwynne to grow the business into a national brand. Kim joined the Cloverkey team in 2023 and uses her niche industry knowledge to drive store sales through innovative merchandise selection and first-rate customer service.
Erin Britton
Another member of the original Lori's Gifts team, Erin had an impressive 18‑year career at Lori's before joining the Cloverkey team in 2023. Erin plays an integral role in designing each Cloverkey gift shop and ensuring products are merchandised efficiently and effectively.

The behind-the-scenes team essential to our organization
Jeff Connelly
Jeff is our warehouse wizard, ensuring that inventory replenishment orders are shipped quickly and accurately to all of our gift shop locations.
Layton Burlison
Layton oversees Cloverkey's financial resources and expenses to ensure our gift shops are running profitably and cost-effectively.
Chen Gu
Chen is our AP specialist, managing payments to the 500+ vendors we work with to fill our gift shops with a varied selection of merchandise.
Curt Treece
Curt oversees the robust point-of-sale and payment processing technology at our stores, including payroll deduction for hospital employees.
Glenna Morgio
Glenna manages our website and marketing efforts, including an ecommerce site where customers can order gifts for same-day delivery to hospital patients.
Rachel Beard
Rachel oversees all staffing and human resources for our corporate staff, store managers, and store associates.
